Is meditation for you?
Yes! Meditation is for anyone and everyone and unless you practice regularly, you will never truly understand all the wonderful benefits you can achieve from it. The number one, most frequently asked question I’m asked is, “How can I connect better with my loved one in spirit?”
One word… meditation.
I know. I know…you can’t sit still, you can’t focus, and you don’t have time.
Repeat after me
- I am sitting
- I am focus
- I have time
Now, repeat those three sentences.
Here’s the thing
I bet you go to the bathroom at least a few times a day. – Guess what? Here is your starting point!!! – Yes, I’m completely serious!!! You are sitting (or standing. – sorry guys!) – You are focused – You have time!
Hey, I try to make things as easy as possible! And you have to start somewhere.
Now, I am not saying that you actually have to be doing your business in the bathroom, but what I am saying is this –
- Put your phone on silent, go into the bathroom, shut the door, and lock it.
- Sit (on the cover.), drop your shoulders, do a few neck rolls, take a long deep breath, and exhale. Relax your face, dropping your jaw. Take a few more deep breaths. Just be in this moment. Allow this space to be yours for 5 minutes.
- Focus on your breathing. Count each time you inhale & exhale. If any thoughts start popping in – that’s ok – simply remind yourself to focus on your breath by saying, “I need to count my breaths.”
- Once you feel that counting your breaths is coming easily – add a color to your breath. Start with red, orange, yellow, green, light blue, indigo, and purple. – If you can’t envision the color – spell it out in your mind.
This process is actually training your mind. You are learning to quiet your mind.
If your mind is “busy” with chatter, how will you hear the quiet, subtle voices,
recognize the signs, receive any messages?
Meditation helps us deal with the constant stress to which we are subjected to every day. As we go through our day, we usually have a continuous mental commentary running in the background. Contemplation, reflection, and pondering (as I like to refer to it as) can help us reduce all of this mental activity and bring our mind to a place of peace and calmness. Meditation helps us rejuvenate our awareness – which is most often dormant.
Meditation increases our awareness, brings a feeling of relaxation, increases mental focus, and enhances mental clarity. (These effects have been backed up by scientific studies, which show that stress reduction occurs in people who meditate regularly.) More and more doctors are telling their patients about meditation and recommend it for many stress related conditions.

Meditation does not have to be the stereotype – sit cross-legged, chanting, “Ommmmm”.
In fact, I don’t believe that I’ve ever practiced that way! Once you feel comfortable with your new practice. Move it into a more comfortable area. Set the atmosphere. Light a candle, burn some incense (Nag Champa is my fav!) Repeat the steps above and with time, your practice will gradually increase from 5 minutes to 20 minutes.
As you become more proficient and consistent within your daily practice – you will start to become more aware of the signs and messages being sent to you.
You probably saying, “So that’s it? That’s all I have to do?” – Yes. The most challenging part is staying consistent. Make a commitment to yourself to meditate daily for 21 days. When you feel like you have limited time or a lot on your mind – Remind yourself that you are honoring your connection to spirit and your loved ones. It’s your “Spirit Time”.
